Beth Peterson is an unusual combination of visual artist and social scientist. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelor of Fine Art in studio ceramics; however, before pursuing her Master of Fine Art she became ensnared by an ultra-authority figure, an extreme manipulator, in Canada. She was controlled by this man for over a year, moving from the softening up stage all the way to full consolidation, and eventually disaffiliation. This experience, while extremely painful and difficult, provided the seed that led Beth into the social sciences.

Beth Peterson
Having gone through the crucible, so to speak, Beth's goals shifted. She became driven to both understand what had happened to her, and why she had come to that place…to help others understand what happens to move people to a place where they are willing to relinquish control over themselves and their lives. With this in mind, Beth returned to school and earned a Master of Art degree in clinical psychology, as well as delving into social work, sociology, and history.

Beth has worked as a Registered Master Level Psychologist and chief psychologist in Kansas. Her caseload included therapy and psychological evaluations of some of the toughest clients, including sexual offenders and survivors of sexual abuse. She later returned to northwestern Pennsylvania where she worked with developmentally disabled adults, many of whom were severely or profoundly retarded with histories of behavioral outbursts. This opportunity opened another window of observation into the inner workings of people.

As an artist and as a psychologist, Beth has been trained in the art of observation. This training, however, only honed what has always been a natural part of her. Even as a young child she was noted for her ability to observe the world around her and then move beyond observation into rational extrapolations. Beth is first and foremost an artist. She thinks like an artist; complex patterns fascinate her. Her ability to recognize and work with patterns is part of what is often called "the artist's eye". Beth has translated her ability to work with visual patterns into working with the patterns involved in the human psyche and human interaction.

Beth has used her skills and abilities to continual increase her overall understanding of the human psyche, to develop her Integrated Model of Extreme Manipulation, in her work with victims of manipulation and ultra-authority, and in her work to increase the emotional, mental and social health of the people she touches. A new, fully revamped version of her book, People Who Play God: How Ultra-Authorities Enslave the Hearts, Minds, and Souls of Their Victims (currently available through Xlibris) will soon be available through Cattails Publishing LLC.
